Some Ghanaians have started raising concerns about the state of the music industry today just for the fact that no Ghanaian artistes made it in the just released list of nominees for the category of Best International Act of the BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards.
But should such nominations from award schemes like the BET Awards be a measuring tape for the progression of our music industry? This topic would be for another time.
On May 15, Organisers of the Bet Awards, 2018 announced the nominees for each category of the award scheme.
Among the top nominees were DJ Khalid who topped with six nominations, Migos and SZA with four nominations with others like Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Bruno Mars, Cardi B and others who are also up for key awards.
Nominees for the Best International Act Award, of which Ghana has received nominations every year but missing on in 2018 include:
Booba (France)
Cassper Nyovest (SA)
Dadju (France)
Davido (Nigeria)
Distruction Boyz (SA)
Fally Ipupa (Dr. Congo)
J. Hus (UK)
Niska (France)
Tiwa Savage (Nigeria)
Stefflon Don (UK)
Stormzy (UK)
In 2012 and 2015, Sarkodie and Stonebouy took home the award respectively by beating other top artistes who were nominated in the category.
The show is slated for 24th June, 2018 in Los Angeles.
